partner profile – the Vancouver Queer Film Festival

Posted by mkushnir on July 7, 2010

so what the hell are you girls and boys supposed to do once your post-pride hangovers have dissipated, once the mess in the apartment has been cleaned up, once the final out-of-towner crashing on your couch has left?

easy. you take a deep breath and head to your local cinema. the Vancouver Queer Film Festival (VQFF) is one of the best summer attractions that us sexual deviants put on in our fair city. make sure to check out the discussions, the galas…and maybe even a flick or two…and take a moment to celebrate our community through film.

i tracked down my good friend LINDSEY, who is intimidatingly tall (he stands nearly a full foot taller than me) and devilishly handsome, to chat about what’s going on over at the Festival these days…

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Lindsey. I’m smooth, athletic, tall, u/c, and ddfree. And, I’m the Marketing and Outreach Assistant for this year’s Queer Film Festival.

Tell us about VQFF.

Out on Screen is the umbrella organization that runs such programs as Out in Schools, the Queer History Project, and, most prevalent to us at this time of year, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival! The Festival turns 22 this year and it runs from August 12-22. There are lots of fun (and sexy) parties to check out, in addition to the fantastic line-up of films!

What’s the best thing about working with VQFF?

Queers, queers, queers – all summer long. I grew up in a small town, so being around so many sweet and sexy queers reminds me of how thankful I am to be working within such a strong and diverse community.

Funniest story on the job?

I haven’t been on the job long enough for much debauchery. Ask me when the festival ends and I’m sure I’ll have some juice.

If I’m buying a round, you’re having a…?

I’ll put anything that starts with Muff to my mouth. Right? Secretly, I just really like tequila.

Best memory at SPIT?

Hmmm. Chocolate cake and water make for a pretty awesome dancing surface.
